Set into the sandy hillside of a Mornington Peninsula property, this pool and spa reflect an exceptional blend of architectural refinement and engineering mastery. The elevated, perimeter-overflow design blurs the line between water and landscape, offering breathtaking views while cleverly overcoming the site’s natural limitations.

Rather than adapting the terrain to suit the pool, Aloha Pools designed a solution that respected the natural slope. A subterranean equipment room was constructed first, acting as both the foundation and a crucial retention system for the site’s loose, sandy soil. This decision offered long-term stability and helped to mitigate risks for adjacent structures.

The client’s vision for a complex, elevated pool and spa with perimeter overflows presented both aesthetic ambition and engineering challenges. What began as a landscape designer’s concept underwent rigorous reworking by Aloha Pools and a team of consulting and geo-technical engineers. The refined design preserved the original vision while ensuring structural integrity in a difficult environment.

Extensive piering and backfilling were employed to stabilise the site before the pool structure could be laid. The construction sequence was carefully managed to reduce the risk of soil collapse, maintain safety during works, and avoid excessive cost variations. Access limitations and shifting ground conditions required meticulous project coordination throughout.

Large-format tiles line the interior of both the pool and spa, their mitred edges and site-specific detailing contributing to the seamless finish. Though the original plans did not call for an undercroft plant room, its integration became central to the pool’s feasibility. Multiple iterations were explored before finalising a design that maintained visual elegance while delivering on structural and environmental performance.

The completed pool is a quiet triumph of thoughtful planning, responsive design, and expert craftsmanship—engineered to complement its environment while providing the luxury of elevated aquatic living.
