BLOG01.07.22How to choose your lighting for your luxury pool

Lighting and Colour

When selecting light number, placement and colour it is important to consider tile colour as well as the final size and shape of the pool. In the case of black or dark blue tiled pools, the visible spectrum will be quickly absorbed, giving the impression of a poorly lit pool.

When looking at light in water it is important to remember the rules of subtractive colour mixing. For instance, a gold tile with blue light will produce the appearance of green water. The light turquoise blue colour of water is best viewed in white tiled swimming pools. The natural colour of water is caused by weak absorption of the red part of the visible spectrum. Even in indoor swimming pools the light turquoise colour will be evident, even where there is no blue sky to be reflected. With deep swimming pools, as well as the ocean, water will appear darker blue as the light passing through the water is quickly absorbed.

Light placement

The placement of the light is very important when considering the overall appearance of the pool. The correct height and spacing will affect not only how efficiently the pool is lit, but also the overall look of the pool. Aloha Pools will locate pool lights facing away from living or entertaining areas to avoid the annoyance of hot spots in your vision.

Light number

We know that LED lights are generally more powerful than Halogen lights. However, While the popularity of LEDs has increased there has not been a reduction in the number of lights specified in pools. There are many different factors to consider when deciding the number of lights to specify - more light units will not necessarily produce more light in the pool. The key is a balance between delivering the desired effect and efficiency.

Light maintenance

Swimming pools are extremely corrosive environments and it is a false economy to use a fitting that will underperform or prematurely fail. There are also many other issues to consider when choosing a light that is right for your pool. Maintenance as well as ongoing running costs are really relevant issues. LED lights have significantly longer globe life meaning reduced maintenance and replacement costs.

Light efficiency

LED lights are increasingly popular as a result of their low running costs and increased light output. The need for fewer lights in the pool will also reduce costs. By far the biggest factor when considering lighting in your pool is to consider the shape and final colour of the interior.
