A Melbourne interpretation of Peter Zumthor's iconic spa at Vals in the Swiss Alps, this luxury pool is an artistic expression of materiality and time with classical references and modern sensibilities.

Masterfully crafted with large format basalt pavers that extend onto the interior wall, this enclosed swimming pool is the basement centrepiece of St. Vincents Place, a modern renaissance home. The rich textures and hand-hewn characters of the pool hall strongly accentuate the simplicity and nuanced layers derived from this statement pool.

A striking element of this pool is the water feature that was designed in collaboration with BE Architects. To meet the challenge associated with the water volume being significant enough without becoming a noise issue, our team strategically utilised a set of internal baffles and diffusers to restrict the internal rotation of the water discharging from the spout.

The build of this luxury pool employed sustainable practices with the installation of,
· solar vacuum tubes on the roof collect hot water, which is stored in huge underground tanks to minimise the use of gas to heat the pool:
· extruded polystyrene to the pool's floor and walls to reduce energy and heat consumption.

Our team of expert pool builders designed the pool with a negative edge slot drain with integrated balance tanks to give the water the appearance of welling up and disappearing into the subterranean rock.

This luxury pool was poured in two parts to retain the structural integrity of the pool's floor and walls and to provide stability to the upper levels of the house.

The boldness of this exquisite pool highlights what can be achieved in an urban setting whilst harmoniously melding the past and present to create a place of stillness and reflectiveness.
